Major fire disaster averted at Ladipo market, Lagos

Today, commuters and passersby, at Isolo end of “Ladipo”, Isolo local givernment area of Lagos State, were full of praises as a major disaster was averted.
Ladipo, a popular motor spare parts would have witnessed a major fire outbreak as a petrol tanker belonging to Total Nigeria, lost control while negotiating to Airport road.
According to Eyewitness report available to GrassRoots.ng, “had the tanker skipped off the cliff, falling on the other side of Ladipo market, the shops and warehouses would have been burnt to ashes. But thanks to God that the doom didn’t happen”.
“Also, it wouldn’t have been better if the truck fell on the road leading to Oshodi because commuters on that route are always on speed; it’s an expressway. So, this doom in this January was averted by God’s grace”.
The source disclosed that quick intervention  of the men of the Lagos State Emergency Response unit and sister agencies assisted in rescuing the situation.
“One thing you must admit about Lagos state is the quick response team; officials of the State Emergence Response Agency didn’t waste time in coming here. Ambulances and other rescue operation equipment were here too.
“It’s either the truck was suppling petrol to one of the petrol stations at Airport road or it was conveying Jet A fuel. All I know is that it was fully loaded!”, the source said.
About 90% of artisans, sellers and importers at “Ladipo”, a popular motor spare parts in Lagos, are of the Igbo extraction, majority of whom are yet to return from the villages after the  Christmas and New year celebrations.
