Enugu Police command sets up task force to recover spy number plates, siren

The Police Command in Enugu State has set up a Task Force to impound vehicles with unauthorised spy number plates, siren and covered number plates in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Inspector-General of Police had directed that all holders of illegal number plates and siren should return them to the Force Transport Officer (FTO) in Abuja and apply for re-validation.

He also said that a task force would be formed at the command levels by state commissioners of police to ensure compliance.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Ebere Amaraizu, said this in a statement on Monday in Enugu that the taskforce would ensure that offenders were prosecuted in line with relevant sections of the law.

“The command further wishes to inform members of the public that one week of grace with effect from today, March 26, has been granted to those whose vehicles number plates are covered.

“While those with unauthorised sirens should dismantle such and desist from further use of it.

“The task force already constituted will commence strict enforcement with a view to impounding vehicles involved just as the owners of such vehicles will be prosecuted.

“The command enjoins all residents of the state to be law abiding,” he said. (NAN)
