How Sokoto is thrown into blackout

Sokoto has been plunged in total darkness with residents groaning under the effect of power cut to the state.

Since Saturday, there had been no power supply from the Kaduna Electricity Distribution company.

Most houses and offices have resorted to the  use of electricity generating set for several hours with its attendant cost while some who cannot afford the cost of running on generator have to bear the situation without cold water, fan and other essential electricity appliances even with the temperature at over 40 degrees.

“I have been spending a fortune on fuel to power my generators at home and in the office and it’s really, really a harsh situation,” Mallam Ibrahim Aliyu businessman lamented.

Households complained of rotting food as refrigerators have since defrost while cold store operators moaned over fall in their businesses.

The management of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company in a statement apologised for power interruption in Sokoto and parts of Zamfara describing it as unplanned outage.

“This is as a result of wire cut on Transmission Company of Nigeria, (TCN,) Birnin Kebbi -Sokoto 132 KV power line at Sanyinna village in Sokoto State,” it stated.

The statement however disclosed that the management of TCN had mobilised its crew to site and that effort was being made to amend the wire cut and restore normal power supply.

It assured that normal power supply would be restores as soon as the TCN team finished its work. (Daily Trust)
