Sallah: 6-year-old electrocuted at Minna Murtala park

A six year old child was on Sunday electrocuted by a naked wire at the Murtala Children Park in Minna, Niger state.

According to an eyewitness, the boy was in the Company of his colleagues playing at one of the abandoned car rail track section which was filled with water from the rain which fell on Saturday night.

The eyewitness stated that the boy unknowingly stepped on some buried naked wires which led to the electrocution.

After the incident occurred, no attempt was made for first aid as there was no arrangement for any medical emergency in place, the victim was however rushed to the hospital to ascertain if he was dead or in shock.

The identity of the victim remains unknown as at the time of filing this story as no one seem to have accompanied the boy or his friends to the park and efforts to get information from his friends proved abortive as they were all incoherent while crying profusely.

Efforts to speak to the organizers of the Sallah Children show was rebuffed as the Chief Organizer claimed to be too busy to answer questions.

However, there was trading of blames as one of the assistants blamed the kids claiming that they were the ones who moved around digging up wires all over and not minding the danger involved.

Other eyewitnesses blamed the management of the Park of negligence stating that it was obvious that the management and the organizers of the event were only concerned with the financial gains rather than the welfare of the people.

A mother of three, Mariam Umar said when she arrived at the park,  she noticed the wires everywhere and had to stop her children from playing in some of the equipments saying, “just what I feared would happen eventually happened. When I told them my fear, they said there is no worries and that the games are safe. “

The eyewitness who broke the news to The Nation, Mr. Samson said, “Taking a look round the entire ground, one would see uncountable naked live wires displayed on the surface of the ground with just masking tapes coiled round them as protection agents. Despite that rain fell, they did not make any move to prevent children from playing there. “

As at the time of filing this story, the Child have been rushed to an unknown hospital while efforts are still being made to know who the parents or guardians are.
