Israeli envy at NCC, Offer assistance on cyber related matters

A team comprising the Director Africa Department II, West and Central Africa, Barnea Hassid; Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Israel Abuja, Nadav D. Goren, and the Senior Economic Officer, Embassy of Israel, Florence Osuji, paid a visit to the Executive Vice Chairman/ CEO of Nigerian Communications Commission, Professor Umar Danbatta in his Abuja office.

In his opening remarks, Hassid informed the EVC that they have come to discuss areas of collaboration and interest to the Commission, importantly cybersecurity and how to address issues of cybercrimes which results from convergence of Internet devices, hacking of online financial transactions and channels of electronic transactions, online impersonation and terrorism which utilizes internet to connect members globally.

Hassid further stated that the Embassy has met with the Nigerian Governors Forum and discussed matters of importance that require Government attention and bilateral agreements between the two countries.

Professor Danbatta, while welcoming and commending the team for the bilateral relationship between the two nations, and call for collaboration in the areas of ICT stated that the Commission will welcome any partnership to mitigate challenges of Cyber crime, security and privacy matters in the app sector of the telecom ecosystem to address impersonations and safety nets to manage online media database.

The EVC further stated that one of the Commission’s 8- Point Agenda is focused on facilitating broadband penetration and ensuring 30% penetration by end of 2018.

Danbatta noted that this will bring unprecedented developments and growth in the telecoms sector but will produce challenges due to innovative applications that will require expertise and networks professionals to handle.

Mr. Hassid in his concluding remarks has offered to provide training to staff of NCC tailored on the collaborative areas and will invite Professor Danbatta to be the guest speaker at the event.
