Enugu East PDP Senatorial ticket: Invasion of the ‘Shrine’

By Ment Nnomeh

I shouted ‘the heat is on’ too early. That was a few weeks ago when some political aspirants met Enugu East Local Government political stakeholders and I raised an alarm like a sports commentator. There was evidence. It was colorful.

I was in a haste, you can say, as Chief Nnoli Nnaji today hailing Enugu East Local Government political structure.

Today, something happened and is happening. Chief Nnolin invaded the ‘shrine’, Enugu East LG PDP secretariat, with a ‘division of supporters’, political pathfinders, the foot soldiers.

It was an invasion – with compliment of Political songsters, women and a ranger male songstar trying to outshine the resident songsters, all women, real okpokpo members.

Nnoli wants the Enugu East Senatorial seat, where Gil Nnaji is still holding the ticket.

‘I am not assessing the performance of the holder. But I will do better’, he boasted.

Songs. Songs! Maybe not in praise but angling for some sprays. But he was not forthcoming for the ritual, the spraying.

Left hand in the pocket occasionally. The women were full of expectation. But the naira glued in the inner recess of the pocket refusing to fall, instead handkerchief to mop the sweat.

However, he made promises as a change.

One remarkable thing: he reminded and revived the oratory of the past, the past of glory, when we usually conclude our submission with the byte, to God all the glory with accompanying old anthem of the structure, the scion of the now structure of great allies.

As usual the Party Chairman, Jonas DrTee More Ogbu turned a pastor. He sang. And the Chorus. But reminded the aspirant that ‘we are team players’, his usual diplomalees indicating the health of the structure where the governor is the leader.

The Local Government Chairman, Alex Ugwu cheered his promises, saying, ‘ a good product needs little advertisement.’

Aspirants of other positions, except the Senate, were in attendance: Cornelius Nnaji, BeloveDan Anikeh, (House of Reps). Clement Nnamani Okwor, Gab Nomeh, Clement Nnamchi, all enjoying the carnival.

It is not ending yet. Another carnival in less than 24 hour.

The celebration of democracy, at least for the footsoldiers, once in four years. Yes, the dividend.
