The Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo has visited Delta State over flooding in the area.

During the visit on Thursday he noted that four states including Delta and Anambra, had been declared as national disaster zones by the Federal Government as a result of the ravaging flood across the country.

He said the Federal Government would also be working with the affected states on how to compensate victims who had lost their farmlands and properties to the floods.

The Vice-President spoke on Thursday at Ogbe-Afor Primary School, Asaba, where an Internally Displaced Persons’ camp had been created for the over 700 victims of flood in Delta State.

He said, “I’m very touched seeing all of you who have been evacuated from your homes to this temporary place. It is very disruptive and I commend the state government for moving swiftly to provide this place.

“The Federal Government will be working with the state government to resettle the victims and ensure that people resume normal life as soon as the flood recedes. We stand with you to make sure that we are able to bring comfort to the victims.”

The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, said, “Though we are aware that property, farm produce have been destroyed, our major concern is to save lives.

“We are aware that the coming days may be more challenging as the flood is expected to rise, but our people are prepared to ensure that Deltans are not left at the impacted communities.”
