Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, a former Chief of Staff to the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for the 2019 governorship election in the state.
Nwosu is a son in-law to the outgoing governor, Okorocha.
The former Chief of Staff polled 269, 524 to defeat eight other contestants.
For Imo East (Owerri zone), Engr. Emma Ojinere was declared winner with 41,562 votes while Okorocha Commissioner for Information, Prof. Nnamdi Obiareri defeated the incumbent senator from Imo North (Okigwe zone), Mr. Benjamin Uwajumogu by 67, 438 to 5, 743 votes.
Chairman of the Imo State APC governorship primaries, Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Agbabiaka (rtd), who made the announcement of the results at about 3.30 am Sunday morning, said that all the nine aspirants contested in the governorship election.
Nwosu closest rival was Chuks Ololo, who polled 6428 votes, while the Deputy Governor. Eze Madumere got 2, 646 votes.
Agbabiaka lauded the conduct of the members of the party, who painstakingly went through the exercise, despite the hiccups that attended the first one.
