Skin bleaching is a journey of NO return- CEO House of Maramuna

Amarachi Okpala is gradually leading a course against skin bleaching. According to her, skin bleaching is a journey of no return.

In a blog post on her Facebook wall, she wrote: “I would love to share my little story why I decided to take up this campaigns against skin bleaching!

“One fateful evening, i was doing my usual oil production, a little 9year old girl came around in my compound, and guess what.

“She said to me ‘Aunty, I want to change my skin color, i want to be fair”…. For a sec, i was confused but i had to think so fast so as to give her a response.

“Then I asked her, ‘why do you want to be fair my beautiful angel” and she said told me how a fair girl in her class gets attention!

“Believe me, that girl was a project for me, it took me not less than a year to counsel, build her body confidence and work on her psychology to let her know the need to embrace her melanin and her origin as an African queen.

“Luckily for me, she has been the brightest in her class which made me show her how special and beautiful she is. Imagine what that little girl would have done to her skin all in the name that she wants to be beautiful.

“To add to this, i started my research and discovered that Nigerian women has the highest rate in skin bleaching in the whole world..to clear my doubts, I conducted a personal research in the Popular Main market of Onitsha, out of every 10 women that passes, 1 is bleaching!! It was quite disheartening…

“A lot of them call me, visit me asking me for solutions for their burnt skin and faces..
