Troop Pharmacy provides free medical services to Lagos community

Troop Pharmaceutical Limited

PHARMACIST (Mrs.) Chizomam Emeje, has described pharmacists as the closest friends to any community, however she stressed the need for Nigerians to engage in regular health-checks to avoid sudden break down.

Pharmacist Emeje, the Managing Director/CEO of Troop Pharmaceuticals Limited under which Troop Pharmacy and Stores operates made the remark at Okota in Lagos during a free medical outreach organized by the Firm as part of its 21st year anniversary in collaboration with ViewPoint Specialist Eye Centre and Codix Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Pharmacist (Mrs) Chizomam Emeje, the Managing Director/CEO of Troop Pharmaceuticals Limited, speaking at the free medi-care outreach in Okota Community, Lagos

She said that the theme of this year’s anniversary- TROOP: PROVIDING BETTER PATIENT CARE was in line with that of International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) thrust for 2018 – Pharmacy: Transforming Outcomes and especially that of one of FIP’s subtopics – Partners In Health.

She said that the free medical outreach was hence in line with FIP mandate for 2018 – to achieve a transforming outcome in the community through partnership with other health game players. It is one of the ways to bring home the theme of FIP to the doorstep of the common man

The Troop Pharmacy used the opportunity to give free medical-care, and counseling to the residents. The free medical care includes eye screening; blood pressure check; random/fasting blood sugar test; highly subsidized hemoglobin Alc test; Lipid profile test; body composition monitor test, amongst others.

“Troop believes in professionalism; that informed our decision to align with FIP’s focus on the extensive expertise that pharmacists have and put to use every day to ensure better patient health.

“This expertise is applied through science and research, through educating the next generation, and through transforming patient needs into services.

“So, the pharmacist is the best friend of the community. He/she ensures that the right medicine is provided at the right dose and in the most suitable formulation. We are always working with other healthcare professionals to ensure that every individual receives optimal treatment.

“This is also why we partnered with ViewPoint Specialist Hospitals who are renowned eye care providers and Codix Pharmaceuticals,” she explained.

The MD/CEO, Troop Pharmacy further said although the profession has been bedeviled by quacks, technology has helped to differentiate best practitioners in the industry.

“It is amazing and heartbreaking when some ignorant practitioners too, would come around and tend to make mockery of knowledge. Rather than appreciating professionalism, they interpret our efforts as profit centered.

other residents who benefited from the free medi-care.

“Even the health information dissemination which has been one of Troop’s services both in prints and online are looked at as profit oriented rather than patient centered. Such a trivializing attitude would make the optimal benefit intended to be reduced or marred.

“In the last twenty-one years we have existed in this environment, the challenge has been lack of knowledge among some members of the Community. Most Nigerians do not read so many do not really have full grasp of whom a Pharmacist is. However, it is not late.

“A pharmacist is not there just to dispense drugs. A pharmacist engages in counseling. What we have done today is Pharmacy; counseling the people and conducting free tests.

Delivering a lecture on “care for the eye”, Dr. Blessing Iro of ViewPoint Specialist Eye Centre, advised the residents to adhere to regular eye check-up, adding that early detailed eye examinations help to detect and correct eye diseases some of which could lead to irreversible blindness.

She said that they leverage on state of the art equipment to make diagnosis and conduct Laser, Retinal, Oculoplastic and Phacoemulsification Cataract surgeries.

According to Dr. Iro, ViewPoint’s partnership with Troop Pharmacy was borne out of the passion to help the residents get better services.

“We are centres of excellence in ophthalmology and provide comprehensive laser, medical, surgical, optical and preventive eye care. We offer services in a highly professional and friendly environment, under the supervision of consultant ophthalmologists skilled in various subspecialties and empowered by the state of the art equipment.

“It is good that outreaches like this are organized to help the people have access to medical-care. That informed our decision to partner with Troop Pharmaceuticals.
