Less than 24 hours before President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign visit to Yobe, the 27 task force brigade in Buni Yadi, came under Boko Haram attack on Sunday evening.
Buni Yadi is also home to Nigerian Army Special Forces Training Schools.
“A panic resident told our correspondent that the attackers arrived in 5 hilux vans laden with Anti Aircraft around 5:00pm and headed directly to the military location,” said a report by Daily Trust.
It quoted the source as saying: “I saw vehicles with Boko haram flags shooting sporadically and shouting “Allahu Akbar!”
The source was further quoted as saying that her house and that of her neighbour were hit by bullets.
Another resident was quoted as saying that the militants had engaged the army in serious gun dual but, there was aerial support by fighter jets in the town.
There was no immediate reaction from the military on the attack.
