The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, has been denied allegations of involvement in vote and other electoral illegalities.
In a statement signed by the Chairman, ALGON, Enugu State, Hon. Frank Ugwu , the Boy writes, attention of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, has been drawn to the mischievous allegation in the social media that the LG Chairmen were being used to disburse the sum of N250,000, allegedly offered to officials at collation centres in South East to ensure that PMB gets 25 percent in each of the South Eastern States.
“Our attention was also drawn to another mischievous allegation that our governor upped it to 30 percent, alleging further that we are doing all that we can to achieve this by manipulating the results in favour of APC, for fear of losing our jobs.
“We wish to state categorically that these allegations are untrue, spurious and baseless, as we are not aware of any such development in the state.
“Consequently, we view this act of mischief as the handiwork of those who are obviously uncomfortable with the stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State and the swelling popularity of the governor as well as the tremendous goodwill, solidarity and support he enjoys in the state.
“As already testified by the media organizations and INEC accredited independent observers, the Presidential and National Assembly Elections in Enugu State were peaceful, credible, free and fair, and devoid of violence and irregularities.
“The outcome of the exercise is and remains a true reflection of the wishes of the good people of Enugu State. “We, therefore, urge the general public to disregard the allegations as they were meant to misinform and mislead, in a failed attempt to achieve a selfish political end.”
