March 9 Polls: Obiano in panic mood; summons teachers, civil servants

Gov. Willie Obiano

overnor of Anambar State, Chief Willie Obiano, has been thrown into a panic mode following the routing of his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the federal-ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) – which he supported during the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly elections – by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Signs of desperation emerged on Tuesday when Obiano, who doubles as the National Leader of APGA, summoned Anambra teachers and civil servants to an emergency meeting during which he sought to convince them to vote for APGA candidates during the March 9 State House of Assembly election.

“The Governor summoned civil servants and teachers in the state to the Jerome Udoji Secretariat and told them that he wants APGA to have 30 over 30 – that is, win all the 30 assembly states in the state,” a credible source told News Express after the meeting.

The source quoted Obiano as directing the workers to ensure APGA’s victory on Saturday, warning them that if APGA does not win the majority of the seats, it would disrupt the activities of his government and negatively affect its promises to the workers, including the payment of an enhanced minimum wage.
