Twenty-two-year-old Prince Oyi has been nabbed by the Anambra State Police Command for robbery in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested by the team work of a police patrol team attached to Isiuwulu Division and officers of the operation Puff Adder following a distress call at Minaj area, Obosi.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Haruna Mohammed, reads in part: “On15/5/2019 at about 03:00 a.m., following a distress call at Minaj Area odume,Obosi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State that Armed robbers were operating at the residents of Akuruno house behind ST Jerome church Area, Police Patrol teams attached to Isiuwulu Division and operation Puff Adder responded swiftly and arrested one Prince Oyi ‘m’ aged 22 years with a fabricated pistol.
“Suspect, along with his accomplices now at large was intercepted operating at the Estate and engaged the Police into a fierce gun encounter. They were overpowered and forced to abandon their mission.”
One live cartridge and four expended cartridges were recovered from the suspect even as the PPRO said that the case is under investigation while effort is being intensified to apprehend other fleeing suspects in order to bring them to justice.
Meanwhile, the Command has also recovered two unexploded ordinance (UXOS) suspected to be explosives at Enu Orji village, Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
According to Mohammed, the bombs which weighed approximately 60kg each, 54 inches length and 6 inches width were successfully evacuated and secured.
While saying that no act of sabotage is suspected, the police spokesman said: “On the 16/05/2019 at about 3:50pm there was a report that some objects suspected to be Unexploded Ordinances (UXOs) were discovered at Elu Orji village Amawbia in Awka South LGA of Anambra State.
“Following the report, explosives ordinance disposal unit of the Command (EOD) rushed to the Scene and cordoned off the Area to prevent explosion and casualties. The objects were confirmed to be unexploded ordinance (UXOs) left over war time bombs.”
