Members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Akwa Ibom State chapter, have warned President Muhammad Buhari against shortlisting Senator Godswill Akpabio for a ministerial appointment.

The President is billed to take another oath of office at his inauguration on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 for his second term of four years.

Consequently, the members under the aegis of Ibom Integrity and Servant Leadership Culture Initiative in a tersely worded letter to the president said that such an appointment is an invitation to crisis in the state.

The letter titled: “Ministerial Appointment: Why Appointing Akpabio May be Counter Productive”, signed by the Executive Vice President of the group, Dr. Asuquo Edidem Etim and copied to the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha and the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari tagged Akpabio as a “destabilising agent”.

It will be recalled that Akpabio who was a former governor of the State on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), and defected to the ruling APC shortly before the 2019 general election in which he contested to return to the Senate but lost.

The group stated that the “same Senator Akpabio that in years past had been yours and our party’s nemesis cannot suddenly become the gadfly of your political generosity.

“Akwa Ibom State boasts of men of immense integrity who can fit into the ministerial positions to help realise the next level agenda of the APC government”.
