The Anambra State Command, on Wednesday, arrested two suspected child stealing syndicate in the state.
The suspects, Ifeyinwa Ezenwanne, aged 50 years, and Caroline Mbonu, 75 years old, were arrested by detectives attached to the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) following intelligence report.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammad, said that suspects had in 2012 conspired with one David Nwachukwu who is currently in prison custody and stole 7 years old Mmerichukwu Okoli from his biological mother, Jennifer Azubuike.
According to him, the stolen child has been recovered and re-united with his parents.
Meanwhile, another 8 years old child whose name was given as Ifeoma was equally rescued from the suspects but they could not give satisfactory account of the child.
He said that the case is under investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.
Also arrested is Stanley Chiemezie, 31 years old, a member of a one chance robbery syndicate operating in Ugwuagba, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
A statement by the PPRO reads in part: “On the 28/05/2019 at about 10:22p.m., Police operatives attached to Operation Puff Adder in conjunction with Patrol team attached to Awada Division while on Stop and Search at Ezeiweka road by NEPA junction arrested One Stanley Chiemezie Ekegbobe ‘m’ aged 31years of Ugwuagba, Obosi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.”
It was gathered that the suspect who was intercepted inside a tricycle popularly known as Keke Napep on sighting the police officers made to run away but was overpowered and arrested.
Exhibits recovered from the suspect include one fabricated revolver pistol and one life ammunition.
Mohammed said Case is under investigation while effort is ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices in order to bring them to justice.
