June 12: Buhari signs the public amendment bill

Just 2 days to the first official celebration of June 12 as democracy day in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, today June 10, approved the public holiday amendment bill.

This means June 12 has legal backing having been signed into law.

Senator Ita Enang, the president’s senior special assistant on National Assembly matters (Senate), told journalists in Aso Rock that Buhari had signed the bill into law. Enang made the confirmation after the signing ceremony.

The presidential aide explained that the newly amended law allows public holiday to be declared on June 12, every year while May 29th will no longer be public holiday.
