More than thirty people are feared dead and many others burnt at Ahumbe Village in Gwer East Local Government Area following an explosion by a tanker laden with petrol that fell down along Aliade – Makurdi High-Way.
An eye witness, Oliver Nyikyaa told Radio Nigeria, Harvest FM that the accident which took place at about 2PM affected over one hundred passengers whose vehicles suddenly ran into the inferno.
He stated that almost all the passengers in the bus suspected to be heading to Oju lost their lives.
Some houses near the accident spot were also burnt with some residents sustaining injuries.
The fire service which later intervened to put out the inferno had one of their men seriously burnt.
Men of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Police were on the ground to clear the heavy traffic jam in the area, while the bodies were moved to the mortuary and the wounded taken for treatment.
