President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N5bn for the National Research Fund to enable scholars from benefitting institutions under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to conduct research for the growth and development of the nation.
According to Daily Trust, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Professor Elias Bogoro, disclosed this at the inauguration of a National Research Fund Screening and Monitoring Committee yesterday in Abuja.
Bogoro, who noted that the approval is the highest since the establishment of the National Research Fund in 2009, said the fund covers three thematic areas of Science, Technology and Innovation, Humanities and social sciences and a cross cutting disciplines.
The committee, he said, is made up of academics of repute that can devote their time and energy to critically review research proposals competing for fund with a view to recommending for grants.
He urged the committee to identify fundable proposals for sponsorship. In his acceptance speech, Chairman of the National Research Fund Screening and Monitoring Committee Professor Olufemi Bamiro pledged to commence work quickly to enable researchers access research funds.
