The Presidency has regretted the negative image the 77 Nigerians arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States (US), has painted Nigerians.
It has, therefore, vowed to work with the US government to find an immediate end to the menace, which it described as a big scar on all Nigeria citizens who “go out of this country and are seen in the image” the arrested Nigerians have created.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s senior special assistant media and publicity, Garba Shehu, stated this when he spoke on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Sunday.
“This is a double damage on every citizen of Nigeria; it’s a big scar on all of us who go out of this country and are seen in this image that these our brothers have created,” he said.
According to him, the Presidency would issue an executive order and engage the National Assembly to ensure it passes new laws to end online fraud involving Nigerians.
The FBI had recently released a list of arrested 80 suspected online fraudsters, with Nigeria citizens taking 77 of the number.
