I have just this to say.
Let us just accept the fact that the call for the immediate redeployment of the Commissioner of Police Enugu was taken up by the powers that be and today, Enugu State has a new Commissioner of Police in the person of Ahmad Abdurhaman.
What we should do is to welcome him and give him the benefit of the doubt. Getting concerned about his ethnic background is not honest on our path. Never.
I say this because while the Commissioner of Police Dan mallam was in the saddle, majority acknowledged that he performed very well. That was self evident. Was he not a Fulani man? Did his ethnic background affect his commitment to the job?
I won’t buy such a profiling because not too long ago, precisely in 2016, Nimbo was attacked under the “watch full” eyes of our own son and commissioner of Police Eberechukwu Nwodibo. This was, despite the Intel at his disposal about the planned attack and logistics provided by the Governor to forestall it. What did he do? He caved in and failed to do what he was supposed to do. To our chagrin, he woke up the following day and waved off the horrendous massacre of our people as a case of Intra Community Igweship scuffle? Too much for an Igbo Commissioner of police policing his own Igbo land!!! Arrant rubbish!
Let me ask: where was you when the agitation for the redeployment of the commissioner of Police? Did you specify the ethnic background of whoever would be deployed? Do you even have the powers to determine who should and of which persuasion? May God give you wisdom about what you can change and where your authority rises and falls.
Haba…. Is it just only yesterday that a new Police Commissioner of Police was deployed to Enugu that you want to start another round of your bigoted ranting? No now! Grow beyond your ethnic profiling of a people and lead life of appreciation.
Is it not silly that you are demanding for his withdrawal and replacement with another CP that understands the Dynamics and nuances of the people of the state?
Now let me ask.
Was it that CP Eberechukwu Nwodibo didn’t understand the nuances and Dynamics of the people of Enugu State as an Igbo man that made it possible for Nimbo attack to succeed and in quick succession that attack in Attakwu? What really went wrong? Simply put inefficiency. He was ill prepared and ill disposed to fighting crime. Regardless of his should have been sentiments as an Igbo man, he didn’t do anything. So why reduce security and crime fighting to ethnicity? Are you taking us back to 1966 when ethnicity and ethnic profiling defined the character and essential elements of our Democratic experience?
Where CP Eberechukwu Nwaodibo failed abysmally, a Northerner, CP Dan succeeded. Does it not mean that CP Dan Mallam understood the nuances and Dynamics that shape our state better and that made him succeed? Come on! Give him some credits. Go on. Do it.
Who says CP Ahmad would not understand? Who says he won’t even do more than CP Dan Mallam?
Are there not instances in the history of Enugu State when security collapsed under the watchful eyes of Igbo born Commissioners of Police? Of course there are. So let us with an open mind predispose to the belief that while anyone can fail or succeed and should not be attached to ethnic origin. Simple
For those of you who can determine tomorrow and read the minds construction on the face… Stop in your track and reflect on the person of man. Men are differently motivated. Motivation has not cultural or tribal origin. And you cant determine human reaction with or without motivation.
That is why a certain Abba Kayri, super-cop who heads the IRT, a Northerner has been making waves and exploits fighting crimes, bursting cartels, harvesting criminals and making uncomfortable the comfort zones of criminals.
Is it not stupid to clap for Abba Kayri in his exploits and come over to profile his kit and kin? Hypocrisy has no better name than this except we baptise and call it selective amnesia.
Finally, I enjoin you all to give the new Commissioner of Police, Enugu State chance to work. He is here to work and he knows his brief and understands same.
Since you are all experts on security matters, be quick to set agenda for him. Pay him visits and define the agenda within the context of your understanding of the immediate local realities governing the state and surroundings. That is noble….
Be reminded: a critic who does not dwell on solutions to the challenges prevailing in his environment is worse than an anarchist and a felon.
