Olawale Olaleye
Since the Friday drama between Mr. Omoyele Sowore and the DSS, I’d remained deliberately quiet for very personal reasons. It wasn’t enough that I’d been out of town, which though had excessively engaged me, it was more, because it was not worth my precious time any longer.
But I’ve had friends and other genuinely concerned Nigerians send me private messages, wondering why I’d kept away from the issue. Well, I haven’t sold out, I just knew enough to make me worry beyond the court drama.
Need I say that everyone, who strays on my timeline isn’t genuinely my friend? I, however, recognise the fact that my true friends know that I don’t run my mouth each time I stepped forward to intervene in any matter.
Yes, there’ve been varying opinions on the Sowore matter, which had placed people on different sides. But bad as it may seem, even to me, I think I worry more about the fact that the president was not aware of what happened at all. He had no pre-knowledge of it. Fact!
For me, therefore, that’s an even bigger problem. Argue for all you care “oh ye e-rats”, yes, Oga was not aware of the drama and that’s not only a dangerous dimension but a totally disturbing one.
What it means is that there might be fifth columnists in the presidency and by implications, the presidency is evidently a divided one. I’m worried. It signals many disturbing implications.
Now, nothing may be wrong outright, if the president was not initially aware. What’s niggling is that nothing was done, when the news went viral and rather than weigh in heavily, attempts were being made to rationalise it. If you believed the futile attempts by the presidency to suppress this as though they were in charge, you have just been snookered.
After all, a time was when something similar happened, the man in acting capacity too didn’t know at first and when he eventually did, he took a decisive action. The debate on whether or not his action was proportional to the crime is a different one altogether. At least, he delivered leadership in the end and when it mattered the most.
However, if you’re in your comfortable corner and these things do not worry you, ladies and gentlemen, it won’t take long before you realise that Sowore’s court drama was indeed a child’s play to the bigger challenge of leadership that we currently face.
Have a good evening, folks.
