Lagos Students Triumph at Year 2020 National JETS Competition

Lagos State has emerged as one of the best in the Federation, among others, in the year 2020 National Junior Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists, (JETS) competitions, winning 11 Trophies and 14 Medals at the competition organised by the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with all the State Ministries of Education and the Federal Capital Territory (FTC), Abuja.

Speaking on the achievement in her office after receiving the news of the Lagos Team victory, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo commended the team for making the State proud, adding that the Lagos Team also accomplished a similar feat in the same competition last year.

Mrs. Adefisayo noted that students of Lagos State Schools, both Private and Public, have been participating and recording successes in various competitions over the years, which is a testament to the improved teaching and learning outcomes in all Schools across the State.

She said “the competition has laid a solid foundation for science development in Nigeria, and one encouraging trend observed was that the quality of performance of the schools has been on the increase since the inception of the competition”.

While urging the students to study harder to win more trophies at other National and International competitions, the Commissioner expressed her displeasure at their performances in some categories and charged them to redouble their efforts in future competitions.

Responding, the students promised not to rest on their oars as they are focused towards achieving greater heights that will bring glory, scientific discoveries and technological inventions to Lagos State and the Nation.

The National JETS competition is an annual competition aimed at promoting the teaching and learning of Science and Technology in Schools and exposing the young talented, intelligent scientists and technologists to the world beyond their locality.

The competition saw all the 36 states and FCT keenly contesting in written/quiz competitions in Biology, Mathematics, Basic Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Basic Science, Agricultural Science, Computer Science and Project Exhibitions.

The theme of this year’s annual National JETS competition was “Science, Technology and Innovations; A Panacea for Insecurity in Nigeria”.
