There are millions of websites on the across the web. That invariably means that there are millions of web designers too. Many people are thinking of how and when to build that website.
When you hire a web designer, be deliberate about the entire process. Don’t leave anything to chance, Emmanuel Udeagha, Founder of Pukena says.
According to him, before hiring any web designer, it is imperative to sit down and think through the entire website content from colors, text on each pages to logo, etc. Have them ready. Get a designer to design your logo. Get a content writer to craft words for your pages.
Don’t leave all these aspects of your project to the Web designer, except you are ready to pay more. But most times, Web designers just want to do what they do best…design websites.
He says, this is your business. As in, your business online, right? So why are you a bit careless about it?
I know most clients are usually busy. They just know they need a website. They expect the web designer to figure out the rest. When he does that, then their creative juices will start flowing. They ask you to change layout, text, color and almost everything you did.
It’s fine. We don’t mind. It’s part of the job. But how about taking your project so serious that you actually plan for it in details.
For instance, if you need an e-commerce site for you business, get original pictures of your products ready with descriptions and prices. Don’t tell a Web designer to go online and start downloading pictures that resemble your products. That’s wrong practice. But you don’t know.
Most times, Web projects is akin to asking Joseph to tell the dream and also interpret it.
“When I first hired a Web designer for a job, I was so deliberate with every single content on the website. From the banner images (slide banners back then) to text on every page to font family to use to color. I wrote every word on my website first on paper before it was added to my website. I sourced my pictures and sent to my Web designer to edit and add.
That was many years ago. Today I design websites for people for a living. I cringe when I see clients who see it as a big burden preparing their Web contents.
Business is not easy. Whatever is what doing is what doing fine.”
