LASG To Decide If They Will Abide By FG’s Decision To Cancel WASSCE

The Lagos State Government will today take a decision on the cancellation of the West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) LASG To Declare Stand On FG’s Cancellation Of WASSCE by the Federal Government.

Recall that last week, Grassroots.ng reported how the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu had announced that schools under its control will not be reopening for the forthcoming WASSCE as earlier announced.

Adamu, while addressing state house correspondents after the virtual Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, July 8, 2020, said due to the Covid-19 pandemic none of the schools under the control of his ministry will resume until schools are considered safe enough.

The Minister also appealed to the State Governments that have already announced the resumption of schools to reconsider that as it is not safe and the students should be protected. He said that he would prefer that students lose an academic year than expose them to dangers.

Responding, the Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, said the state government will on Monday come out with its reaction.

Adefisayo, who spoke with Punch, said the state was still reviewing the Federal Government’s decision and would soon make its stance known.

“We are still reviewing the situation and will let you know our decision on Monday. I don’t want to say more than that; give us time. It is something we can’t respond to now. There is not enough clarity; so it’s better to speak when I do,” she said.
