Labour Union Suspends Industrial Action, As Wike Intervens

The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have agreed to suspend the protest billed to hold today in Port Harcourt after Governor Nyesom Wike’s intervention.

The Union and the River State Government had in a closed-door meeting reached an eight-point agreements yesterday ahead of the protest.

It was resolved that the contract on minimum wage will be signed, the sealed NLC secretariat will be re-opened while the government continues with the correction of the structural defect.

Part of the resolution entails that the government will immediately restore the remittance of check-off dues, the outstanding health workers salaries will be paid.

However, a committee will be set up to resolve outstanding issues, parties shall discontinue all court cases and that no worker will be victimized over his role in the dispute.
