A man identified as Ugochukwu Joseph has been arrested by the police in Abuja for allegedly strangling his fiancée to death in Lugbe area of the state.
Grassroots.ng gathered that the couple started dating in May 2021, and in June 2021, the suspect was said to have moved in with the deceased, on the account that he was jobless and had no proper shelter.
According to reports, the deceased mum-of-one was financially responsible for her fiancé, who was said to have maltreated, abused and attacked her at every slight provocation. He also allegedly threatened to kill her on several occasions.
Evelyn had planned to move out of the apartment when, on Saturday February 18, 2022, she reportedly found a gain in her fiancé’s bag. She was said to have called her sister to intimate her of the incident and her decision to report to the police.
She, was however, strangled to death in the evening of the same day. Her body was covered by with a blanket and the room locked up and recovered by the police on Monday, February 21, 2022
“After running to a safer place, Ugochukwu called Evelyn’s father in the village intimidating him of Evelyn’s death, that he should come and carry his daughter’s corpse.
He also called a brother in-law to say the same thing. It was the father who called from the village to inform the siblings in Abuja. That was how the news broke out,” a source said.
