Lagos-based MFM U-15 team, on Monday, became the first team to secure the quarter final ticket at the ongoing MTN-sponsored Nigeria Professional Football League/LaLiga U-15 championship.
MFM defeated Lobi Stars 1-0 in their second game of the competition, achieving an unassailable six points in Group A and leaving the three other teams in the group to fight for second place.
Plateau United, who secured their first three points of the tournament after defeating Kano Pillars 2-0, will be eyeing that spot.
Kano Pillars, who are also on three points, defeated Lobi Stars 3-2 in the opening game of the competition, will hope to get a good result against MFM in the final game of the group.
Speaking after his team’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Kano Pillars, Plateau United coach, Sapwada Yerima, said he was happy with his boys’ performance and quick recovery from their opening day’s loss as they look forward to another win in their last game against Lobi Stars who remained without a point in two matches.
The NPFL/La Liga U-15 tournament is a continued indication of MTN’s commitment to raising the standard of grassroots football in Nigeria.
The Senior manager, sponsorship and promotions MTN Nigeria, Osaze Ebueku, stated: “This investment is a seed being sowed with hopes to harvest stars who will be groomed to represent Nigeria in the next two world cups and make it to the finals.”
The competition continues Tuesday with the host team, Remo Stars, taking on Kwara Utd in the first match of the day while Abia Warriors and Gombe United contest for their first win of the competition when they play against each other in the second match.
