UNICAL LAW Students Protest Over Alleged Continuous Sexual Harassment From A Lecturer Who Is Their Dean

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Prof Cyril Ndifon, on Monday, found himself in fresh alleged sexual harassment claims by female students of his department.

The students in a now-viral video, accused Ndifon of sexually assaulting and harassing them.

In 2016, The PUNCH reported that Ndifon was suspended by the institution after a 20-year-old 400-level student (name withheld) accused him of sexually assaulting her. His suspension was to last until he was exonerated from all allegations.

Unsatisfied by the institution’s decision, Ndifon sued the school claiming they had no power to suspend him beyond the statutory three months according to the University of Calabar Act, LFN, 2004. The suit was eventually dismissed by Justice Eunice Agbakoba.

In a new development Monday, female law students of the institution stormed the office of the school’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, with renewed claims of alleged sexual harassment by the don as well as extortion by their lecturers.

Bearing placards with inscriptions such as, “We are tired of sucking d..ks”, “Ndifon Must Go For Our Sanity”, “We Are Tired of Buying Law Journals”, “We Are Tired of Lecturers Not Attending Classes”, and “Law Girls Are Not Your Bonanza, Prof Ndifon Should stop grabbing us,” the students charged the school authorities to address their concerns.

The video has since sparked outrage online as many have begun to call for justice.

On Twitter Ekanem Bassey wrote: “I went to that faculty 2 years ago, and he was already a problem then although new. They let him stay and rise to Dean, rewarding evil. Sick to my stomach.”
