The Umuode Ikenna Nsulu Community in Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Abia State, has announced the departure of Eze Ferguson Nwulu, who reigned for 28 years.

Eze Nwulu passed away at the age of 86. 

According to a statement signed by Uchenna Awom and Chido Nwakanma, co-chairmen of the Publicity Committee, the community and the Nwulu family have fixed his burial for 28-30 December 2025.

They have also established a Burial Planning Committee to ensure that Eze Nwulu’s burial is conducted with grandeur. 

Sir Chinedu Ugoezi Ugoala, a former chairman of Isiala Ngwa North Local Government, and Chief Victor Arisa, the community’s prime minister, jointly chair the committee.

Ugoala said, “The Eke preceding the burial period will be reserved for all cultural activities in respect to the celebration of the life of our KING.”

Members of the 40-member committee are chosen from the wider Umunna Nsulu community of Isiala Ngwa North. They will serve on ten subcommittees.

The late Eze Ferguson Nwulu was the first traditional ruler of Umuode Ikenna autonomous community upon its creation 25 years ago. Before then, he was the chief of the community, following in the footsteps of his father, Chief Marcus Ajuzie Nwulu, who the colonial authorities had appointed as a warrant chief.

Eze Ferguson Nwulu observed numerous positive developments in the community, including the initiation of rural electrification and improvements to the water supply. 

He pursued his early education at St. Thomas School, Umuosu, and St. George’s School, Nsawsi, from 1942 to 1949, and at Idi Oro Road Primary School in Lagos from 1952 to 1953. His thirst for knowledge led him to further his education at Yaba Trade Centre Evening Class from 1954 to 1958, where he honed skills that later shaped his illustrious career.

A Distinguished Professional Journey

HRH Eze Sir Ferguson Chimka Nwulu’s career was marked by excellence and dedication. He began his professional journey as an Assistant Storekeeper at G. Cappa Ltd, Apapa, Lagos, from 1956 to 1958, and later served as an Assistant Inspector of Works at the Lagos Executive Development Board (L.E.D.B) from 1959 to 1967.

Determined to expand his expertise, he completed an industrial attachment at the Dane Group of Companies Ltd, London, England, where he refined his technical and managerial skills. Upon returning to Nigeria, he became a Manager at S.P.A.N. Group of Companies in Port Harcourt from 1968 to 1971, before returning to Aba.

In 1979, His Royal Highness Eze, Sir Ferguson Chimka Nwulu, took a bold step into entrepreneurship by establishing Fermit and Sons Associates (Nig) Ltd, a company registered with the Federal Ministry of Works. Through this venture, he created employment opportunities, mentored young professionals, and contributed significantly to the community’s infrastructure development.

Many children, grandchildren and siblings survive the late Eze Ferguson.

His children include Mrs Francisca Nwulu-Ohanele (daughter), Mrs Joy Nwulu-Ijeoma (daughter), Mrs Blessing Nwulu Njoku (daughter), and Prince Chukwudubem Chimka Nwulu (son).

The following brothers survive him: Mr Leonard Okechukwu Nwulu, Architect Emmanuel Nwulu, Mr Herbert Nwulu, Sir Dr Steve Nwulu, and Mr Victor Nwulu.

The surviving sisters are Rev. Mother Assumpta Nwulu, Ugoeze Rebecca Ogonnaya Emelogu, Adanne Nwulu, Mrs Anayo Nwulu-Osuji, and Evangelist Mercy Chinasa Nwulu.

Many nieces, nephews and numerous grandchildren also survive him.
