OVH Energy Marketing Ltd, licensee of the Oando retail brand and Nigeria’s leading provider of trusted petroleum products and services, hosted a reunion for beneficiaries of its Oleum Academy.
The event tagged ‘The Big Reunion’ which held in Ikeja, had over 500 Lagos basedmechanics in attendance, the chairmen of the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) and the Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN).
The alumni reunion offered the opportunity for the mechanics to engage with their peers and to celebrate the company’s achievement following the commitment made in 2014 to train 5000 Nigerian mechanics in 5 years.
So far, 4760 mechanics nationwide have graduated from the 3-month training program in mechatronics, lubrication and entrepreneurship. Also, 300recently inducted mechanics will take part in the 2019 trainingedition in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kano.
Commenting at the reunion, the Ag. Chief Marketing Officer, OVH Energy Marketing Ltd., Lilian Ikokwu said, “We are extremely proud of the feat achieved, and beyond this, OVH Energy is re-launching an initiative to support graduates of the academy with the Oleum Reseller Scheme – an Oleum lubricant reward program aimed at boosting their income.
As our unofficial ambassadors, we are committed to ensuring their lives and that of their circles of influence or communities are positively impacted, hence our drive to meeting their needs in ways we can”.
Bringing the Oleum Academy alumni together rightly highlights the value-add the trainings have offered over time and builds the memory history each beneficiary holds. The trainings whichensure Nigerians have access to professional and technically sound automotive support, was initiated to bridge the skills gap in the auto-repair industry, Ikokwu added.
The Chairman, National Automobile Technician Association (NATA), Comrade Jacob Omonide-Fayehu commended OVH Energy Marketing for its continued efforts at impacting the lives of blue collar workers in the Nation. According to him “it is vital to invest in Nigeria’s skilled labour force as this contributes greatly to capacity building and our economic development”.

An alumnus of Oleum Academy, Rasheed Ademola, Third Best Graduating Student, Class of 2017, expressed his appreciation saying, “Before I joined the Oleum Academy, I was a meremechanic’s apprentice with little knowledge on how the industry operates.
Today, I am pleased to say that I am an automobile technician with expert skills in mechatronics and lubrication, all thanks to OVH Energy”.
The Oleum Academy alumni expressed immense gratitude for organizing the reunion and commended the efforts of OVH Energy at supportsing the industry.
Initiated in Lagos with 100 mechanics, the Oleum academy was conceived by OVH energy in 2014 as a corporate investment and skills development programme targeted at bridging the skills gap amongst mechanics in the Nigerian auto-repair industry.
Oleum Academy is committed to raising the standard in the auto-repair industry in Nigeria through trainings in automotive-mechatronics, lubrication and entrepreneurship for mechanics and auto-technicians in Nigeria.
