Enugu State Govt Closes Akwata Bridge

Enugu State Government has closed the pedestrian bridge at Akwata, Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, Grassroots.ng

The closure, the State Government said, was a precautionary measure preparatory to the commencement of completion work immediately after the requisite due process is concluded.

Ealier today, the Government counselled citizens to avoid the Bridge.

This follows series of online news reports questioning the integrity of bridge.

The Bridge which connects coal camp to Ogbete Main Market and serves mainly resident of Coal Camp, Obed Camp, Colliery Quarters, amongst others, is still uncompleted.

In a statement on Tuesday Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s
SSA (Media), Mr. rLouis Amoke, said, “On the issue of the pedestrian bridge at Akwata, Ogbete Main Market, Enugu constructed over the years, the present administration is already aware of the problem as well as other similar structures identified at Peter Okoye street, Uwani and Lagos street, Asata, Enugu.

“Due process for the completion of works is on-going for the relevant ministry to thereafter, commence work immediately, for safety.

“Members of the public are, therefore, advised to stop using the bridge until the necessary safety measures are put in place, accordingly”.
