Soldiers allegedly desert troubled village over non-payment of allowances


Some soldiers deployed to Kadarko village in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State to checkmate the activities of Fulani herdsmen were said to have left the area on Tuesday morning, for alleged non-payment of their allowances by the State Government.
Investigations by Tribune Online revealed that the soldiers left the troubled community due to the non-payment of their allowances which the former has complained severally to the government that it might hinder its smooth operation in nipping in the bud the nefarious activities of herdsmen in the troubled area.
A community leader who pleaded anonymity said: “The soldiers left Kadarko because they told us that the State Government has not paid them their allowances and they also complained of not having food to eat.”
Meanwhile, about 20 houses were set ablaze by the people suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in Tamen village near Kadarko within the local government.
According to one of the witnesses, Mr Tengu Moses, the Fulani invaded the community at about 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, and set the village on fire and fled.
He said one Mr Alohor Joseph who was abducted during the invasion has not been found.
Similarly, a 19-year-old Akaazu Nyorgun who was attacked by the herdsmen in a school in Kadarko is currently receiving treatment at a primary health care hospital in the area. The attackers cut off his left hand and went away with it.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Kennedy Iddrisu, said the command was yet to receive any information from Kadarko Station. (Tribune Online)
