Senator Aishatu Binani Defects to NDC
…as Party Reaffirms Commitment to Women Inclusion and National Renewal

Today, the National Chairman and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) formally received former Senator, Distinguished Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani, into the party.
The ceremony, attended by key party leaders, also featured Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, who described the development as a significant step in strengthening the party’s commitment to inclusive politics, national development, and ideological-driven leadership.
Senator Dickson expressed appreciation to Senator Binani for aligning with the NDC’s vision of a “new Nigeria anchored on ideology, service, inclusion, and national development.” He noted that her decision to join the party reflects growing confidence in the NDC as a credible platform for transformational leadership.
“We thank her for believing in our vision for a new Nigeria and in a different kind of politics anchored on ideology, service, inclusion, and national development,” he said.
The event also served as a renewed call for greater participation of women in Nigerian politics. Senator Dickson urged women across the country to take advantage of the NDC platform, describing the party as one that recognizes and values the critical role of women and youths in nation-building.
According to him, the NDC remains committed to breaking barriers and promoting equal opportunities in political leadership.
“We also used the occasion to call on Nigerian women across the country to join the NDC, a party that recognises and values the vital role of women and youths in nation-building,” he stated. “I urged them to rise and embrace the NDC as a platform for service, leadership, and positive change in Nigeria.”
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to gender inclusion, Senator Dickson highlighted that the NDC had, at its inaugural National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, adopted an affirmative action policy for women.
He added that this policy is designed to ensure meaningful participation of women in elective and leadership positions within the party and across governance structures.
“It is because of our deep commitment to inclusion that, at our very first NEC meeting, the NDC adopted affirmative action for women,” he said. “We therefore invite women across Nigeria to use the NDC platform to break barriers, shatter glass ceilings, and aspire to all elective offices as well as leadership positions within the party.”
Senator Dickson, who has long been an advocate for women’s empowerment and inclusion, expressed pride that the NDC is now positioned as a national platform advancing that cause.
“I have always been known as an advocate for women’s inclusion, empowerment, and development. Today, I am proud that the NDC is providing a credible vehicle to advance that cause on a national scale,” he noted.
Welcoming Senator Binani into the party, the NDC leadership expressed confidence in her capacity to contribute to party growth and unity, particularly in Adamawa State. She was entrusted with a leadership role to work alongside the State Chairman and other stakeholders to foster consensus, deepen inclusion, and strengthen internal cohesion.
“We warmly welcomed Senator Binani and wished her success in this new chapter,” Dickson stated. “We gave her the mantle of leadership and entrusted her with the responsibility of working with the State Chairman, party leaders, and stakeholders in Adamawa State to build consensus, promote unity, deepen inclusion, and work for the good people of the state.”
The NDC reiterated its optimism that the party will continue to grow stronger across Nigeria as more patriotic citizens join the movement for national renewal.
“NDC all the way,” the statement concluded.
