Buhari has no preferred candidate in Ebonyi State

Contrary to speculations that President Muhammadu Buhari had endorsed an aspirant for the All Progressives Congress governorship election in Ebonyi State in 2019 general elections, investigation has revealed that the President has not endorsed anybody.

Recently, there were rumours that the President had already thrown his weight behind a two-term serving senator in the Senate for the party’s governorship ticket, a situation that had caused tension among contestants.

Investigation by The Punch has however revealed that Buhari had declared support for anybody.

A source close to the presidency, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that in the “Blue Room” at the Presidential Villa, nobody’s name was found to have been tipped for the APC governorship ticket in Ebonyi State.

He said all the people claiming to have been anointed by the president were merely wasting their time.

The source described the “Blue Room” as a special room in Aso Rock, where any document or item kept therein was regarded sacrosanct and held in utmost importance by the presidency.

The source said, “Buhari has not chosen or endorsed anybody for the APC governorship ticket in Ebonyi State. Those saying they have the backing of the President may be wrong.

“The president has yet to make up his mind on who to support and the President I know, may eventually settle for somebody whose name is not even heard yet,” he added.
