Obi denies single-handedly building Blessed IweneTansi Church

Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, has insisted that he would prefer quiet contributions to the promotion of work in the Lord’s Vineyard.
His Special Adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, disclosed this on Wednesday, even as he denied that the former Anambra State Governor single-handedly sponsored the construction of the Blessed IweneTansi Church, Umudioka, Anamnra State.
Obienyem wrote of social media: “I read the news that Mr. Peter Obi sponsored the construction of the Blessed IweneTansi Church, Umudioka single-handed. I do not know the origin of that news, obviously crafted by an Obi admirer to prove that he is not stingy towards donations or corporal work of mercy.
“However, let it be on record that the news is false. For those of us who know the extent of his contributions to that project, the debate could be on whether or not he was the biggest donor.
“Obi believes that building of churches should be communal efforts, with people contributing according to their means. Beyond Nigeria, in places like Rwanda, Philippines, Cameroon and Burundi, he was the highest donor towards Church projects. As a matter of fact, Bishop Hilary Odili Okeke and I accompanied him to Haiti where he contributed towards the reconstruction of their Cathedral that went under when the earth shrugged her shoulders (earthquake).
“There are several other Church projects in which he contributed over 80% of their costs, but it would be against his wish to name or list them here.
“As Obi insists, he would prefer quiet contributions to the promotion of work in the Lord’s Vineyard.”
