Fire destroys part of Aba park, Umuahia

A fire inferno has destroyed some shops at the Aba motor park in Umuahia, Abia State capital.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known as some of the people who rallied to put the fire out were at a loss as to the cause.
However, it was gathered that the shop where the fire stated was used to keep fuel. The owners of the shop could not be immediately identified in the ensuing concussion as other shop owners inside and the adjoining ones outside the park.
One of the sympathizers, identified simply as Dan, said “the cause of the fire is not known. This is the second time fire would be destroying this park. And it always happens at this time of year.”
It was obvious that the fire aggravated by the harmattan breeze was beyond the capacity of the people who were rushing in with buckets of water. The effort rather than douse the fire aggravated it. The fire service was no where to be seen as the people were saying “call the fire service.”
At the time of filing the report no life was lost but as the fire raged it was reaching the adjoining shops. The smoke painted the atmosphere of the capital city black especially from the Bende Road towards the railway tower.
