The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Zamfara State, Mr Abdulaziz Yari says the All Progressives Congress (APC) is sure of raking 90 per cent votes from his state.
Yari stated this on Sunday in Abuja, the nation’s capital while briefing journalists ahead of the general elections.
The governor is optimistic that President Muhammadu Buhari will defeat win the state during the February 16 presidential election.
“I can tell you that in entire Nigeria, Zamfara is one of the states that APC is sure of 90 per cent, up till now that I am talking to you. If I decide today not to go back to Zamfara, on February 16, we will see what is going to happen because people are waiting,” he stated.
Speaking on the crisis rocking the party in the state, the governor insisted that the APC conducted its primaries as requested by the law.
He criticized the party’s national secretariat and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for an alleged unfair treatment.
“How can a system that has been running since 1998 till date be scrapped just overnight so that they will not participate in any election? I think it is unfair,” he added.
Yari’s comments come four days after a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja APC from fielding candidates in the forthcoming general elections in Zamfara State.
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu who gave the ruling on Friday following a suit filed by the APC challenging the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a letter dated October 9, 2018, INEC had barred the party from fielding candidates in the state for failing to conduct its primaries within the stipulated time.
Two courts on Friday handed down conflicting rulings on whether INEC can accept candidates presented by APC for Zamfara elections in 2019.
While a High Court sitting in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, ruled that APC actually conducted primaries in the state and should be allowed to present candidates for the elections, an Abuja court ruled otherwise.
