A 22-year-old politician, Chika Alex-Chukwuezie, of Umuanasa clan, Ubaekwem community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, has committed suicide out of alleged frustration.

The deceased, who until his demise was single and unemployed, hanged himself on a family mango tree. He was said to be an active youth in the Umezekwe political ward of Ihiala LGA.

It was also learnt that he had completed his Senior Secondary School (SSS) exams, with the hope to excel in business after schooling.

Some are however reading spiritual meaning into the tragic incident, as one of Chukwuezie’s uncles passed away decades ago in the same circumstance.

A family member who spoke on condition of anonymity said the family had after the death of the said uncle subjected themselves to spiritual cleansing to avert a re-occurrence of the unfortunate incident in the family, adding that the deceased had recently complained about hardship.

He said: “He tried his hands on business shortly after he left school but the business flopped as soon as it was started.

“Since that time, he had been in politics and risen to a youth leader in this area. He is a known politician in the area.”

GRASSROOTS.NG learnt that the body of the deceased has been thrown into a river according to Igbo traditional rites while cleansing  is expected to be done in the family compound where the incident took place.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Muhammed, said they have commenced investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
