A team from the Human right Community, under the banner of People’s Alternative Front, led Mr. Femi Falana SAN, on Thursday met with Acting IGP, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, and other top police officers at the Police Force Headquarters Abuja.

At the meeting Mr. Falana expressed the concern of the human rights community over the worsening security situation in the country especially the increasing rate of armed robbery, kidnapping, killings, terrorism and banditry in the land. He commended the IGP for stopping media parade of criminal suspects in line with international human rights standards.

The human rights leader however informed the Acting IGP of the human rights community plan to embark on series of public protests if the federal government fails to take over the monopoly of violence from criminal gangs.

While thanking the group for the meeting, the police boss gave detailed explanation on the combined efforts of the police and other security agencies to confront the security challenges. On the new strategy of the police force, Mr. Adamu quipped that the police now works with human intelligence, in collaboration with the Air force and other sister security agencies, including the Civilian JTF whom he maintained has been of immense assistance to the various security agencies in the onerous task of securing the nation.

He concluded by saying that “security is everybody’s business” and called for greater synergy and collaboration between all strata of the society in making the country safe for all and sundry.

In the team of the human right community were Mr. Eze Nwagwu, of Say No Campaign, Isa Sanusi and Emmanuel Ayoola, both of Amnesty International, and Mr. Benjamin and Abubakar Marshal.
