Former CNN Journalist Visits Lagos for Week-Long World Press Freedom Day Activities

Professor Jennifer Thomas, former CNN producer and current Assistant Professor of Broadcast Journalism at Howard University in Washington, DC will visit Lagosfrom April 29 to May 3rd to help the United States Consulate General mark this year’s World Press Freedom Day.

At CNN, Professor Thomas played a vital role in the network’s coverage of major news stories. She was onoured by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for her contribution to the network’s September 11 coverage and received the Peabody Award for her contribution to CNN’s coverage of Hurricane Katrina.

As part of her weeklong activities, Professor Thomas will conduct a broadcast journalism workshop, grant a series of interviews highlighting the role of the free press in a democracy, and interact with journalism students at the School of Media and Communication at Pan Atlantic University.  Following the journalism class, she will be featured in a Facebook Live session focused on the “Menace of Fake News.”

On World Press Freedom Day, May 3rd, her week-long engagements will conclude with a lecture at Pan Atlantic University. The audience  will include journalism faculty and students, senior journalists and editors, as well as representatives of media development organizations.  

Speaking on the visit of Professor Thomas to commemorate the 26th anniversary of World Press Freedom Day, U.S. Consulate Public Affairs Officer Russell Brooks said, “We are extremely pleased that Professor Thomas will join us to mark this important occasion and share her insights with Nigerian colleagues. The United States considers a free press to be a foundation of democratic governance. We believe a free press must be fostered to keep citizens properly informed and actively engaged in the issues that affect them in order to hold government and other institutions accountable to the public.”

Why I’m Not Ready For Kids – Singer Burna Boy Reveals

Grammy Award-winning singer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has revealed why he is not yet ready to have children.

He made this known during an Instagram live session on his page on Wednesday.

Burna Boy claimed that his desire to provide the same level of love and dedication his parents gave him is the reason why he is not having kids.

Explaining further, Burna Boy said, “Why haven’t I had kids yet? Bro, it’s because I don’t want to have kids. Like, have you seen my operation? Have you seen my mom the way she loves me? Have you seen my dad the way he loves me?

“Bro, I know I can’t give that to anyone right now with the life I live. So until I am settled and can be there for my children every day, every minute of every day, I am not having any kids.”

Men Of The Lagos State Police Command Have Arrested Singer Portable

The singer was arrested or rather dramatically dragged into the police van while he was trying to run away from the arrest on May 14 following a petition from a car dealer.

Portable allegedly purchased a G-Wagon worth N27 million from the car dealer, made a down payment and took the vehicle away with the promise to pay the balance.

After waiting for a while without any word concerning his balance, the dealer reached out to the singer who claimed the car he purchased had faults. The dealer then asked the singer to return the car or pay the balance but Portable allegedly refused.

Following a petition from the dealer, the police moved in and arrested the singer who is currently in their custody.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest of the singer.

Celebrities Turn Up For The Dedication Of Ali Baba’s Triplets In Lagos

Comedians such as AY Makun, Seyi Law, and MC Lively and many other celebrities were in attendance at the child dedication ceremony of ace comedian Atunyota Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba.

Recall that the comedian announced the birth of his triplets, born two months earlier, on his Instagram account on Monday, April 1, 2024. However, some netizens thought it was a prank which Ali Baba didn’t bother clarifying.
