Boko Haram attacks Borno community, carts away food, provisions

Boko Haram insurgents, on Saturday evening, stormed Lassa in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, razing down houses and shops and carting away huge quantities of food items and other provisions.
A reliable source, whose relations were affected, told Daily Trust, on Sunday, in Maiduguri, that the insurgents stormed the agrarian community at about 8:10p.m, shooting sporadically and setting houses and shops ablaze.
“In the process, the insurgents overpowered the military base at Lassa, which initially tried to repel their attack; and it took a fierce engagement by a military reinforcement from Askira about two hours to overpower the insurgents and chase them out of the community shortly before midnight,” the source said.
“No casualty has yet been reported from the duel, as residents fled to the bush and other neighbouring communities in different directions,” the source said.
“I cannot tell you whether or not the insurgents were intent on killing the residents there or they just attacked the community in search of food; but there is no reported casualty yet; yet they carted away large quantities of food items and other provisions,” he said.
Security agencies have not yet issued any press statement on the attack, which came in a series of attacks on local communities across the state recently. (Daily Trust)
