CPN vows to go after unregistered ICT professionals

The Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) says the Ministry of Education has approved its request to clampdown unregistered IT professionals in the country.
Prof. Charles Uwadia, President of the council made this known at a media forum in Abuja recently.
Uwadia said the council had over 5,000 practising professionals who were not registered while calling on them to do the needful before the operation would begin.
According to him, we try to get members and persuade them to register before practicing in the country.
“We are empowered by the Act establishing the council to bring unregistered professionals to book.
“Anyone not known by CPN is not expected to practice in Nigeria. Any organisation that has to do with IT and employed unprofessional persons are not helping the country.
” The Ministry of Education has now given us the backing to clampdown on unregistered IT professionals in the country and we will soon start to bring them to book,” he said.
Uwadia, however, called on companies to always request evidence of registration from professional bodies before employing any IT expert.
