Nigerian Lawmakers Deny Sending Letter To EFCC To Probe Akpabio

The Nigerian lawmakers have cleared the air on a forged letter addressed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe Senator Godswill Akpabio, the minister of the Niger Delta affairs over financial corruption.

The Clerk of the Upper Legislative Chamber, Nelson Ayewoh, Wednesday, exonerated the Senate from a letter alleging that the EFCC was ordered to investigate Akpabio.

Ayewoh in a statement in Abuja noted that a forged letter reportedly from the Senate addressed to Ibrahim Magu the EFCC chairman had ordered the anti-graft agency to probe the senator over corruption at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Nation reported.

He advised the public to disregard the false publication and fraudulent petition.

He said: ” That at no time did the Office of the Clerk, Senate issue or caused to be issued, a petition seeking the monitoring and investigation of the Hon. Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio or any person for that matter.”
