Edo Lawmakers Reject Governor Obaseki’s N1.5B Loan Request

Some lawmakers at the Edo National Assembly have rejected the move by Governor Godwin Obaseki to obtain N1.5 loan facility from a Commercial Bank.
They argued that it was null and void and urged the bank to decline the request.
The faction Deputy Speaker, Emmanuel Agbaje, criticized the approval of the loan saying it was consented by an illegal gathering of dissident members in the Government House.
He alleged that the purpose of the loan was to bankroll the election of Godwin Obaseki, adding, “Their election is not an official matter of the state, we as a House cannot afford to sell the future of our children.”
Another lawmaker, Chrias Okaeben, said he was embarrassed by the action of the governor.
Reacting to the disapproval of the Seventeen (17) member faction, Okiye, said responding to their action is like giving them credibility, he described them as impostors that should be investigated by the police.
He said he was expecting the police to investigate them as ordered by the court for treason and felony. What they are doing remains a big joke. It is of no value before the law”, he said
