LAGESC Warns Resident Of Housing Estate Against Environment Contraventions

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has warned residents of housing estates against contravening the environmental laws of the State.
The Agency vowed to increase its monitoring exercise for environmental infractions and other nuisance in Estates, gated communities and other residential areas in Lagos.
The Corps Marshal, LAGESC noted that the present administration is poised to ensure a healthy and cleaner environment across the metropolis, as such, the Agency will continue to ensure compliance and enforcement of all environmental laws across the nooks and crannies of the State.
Gbemisola Akinpelu (Rtd), explained that in a recent monitoring exercise by the Agency, which was carried out in response to petitions from concerned citizens, residents of three blocks of flats at the Millennium Housing Estate, Oko-Oba, Agege, were served notices for environmental infractions for distressed soak-away, defective plumbing works, vegetal nuisance, open discharge of effluent and dirty surroundings among others.
While noting that the harmful and unhealthy habit is rampant among many residents in different areas of the State, Akinpelu declared that the enforcement exercise will be sustained in every part of Lagos, especially in housing estates and gated communities, stressing that all environmental infractions will not be tolerated and that violators would be punished accordingly.
The Corps Marshal, therefore, implored Lagosians to comply strictly with the health and safety directives by the State Ministry of The Environment and Water Resources, urging residents to adopt an attitudinal change by not dumping refuse in drainage channels and erecting structures on drainage alignments.
She also enjoined all residents to support the efforts of the government in ensuring that the expected heavy rainfall and release of dam water does not wreak havoc in any part of the State.
