APC Debunks Reports Of Canvasing Tenure Extension For Politicians

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Committee for Registration/Revalidation exercise has rubbished reports that it is canvassing for tenure extension for members in Lagos.
According to the Chairman of the committee, Dr Muhammad Bashir Ruwangodiya, the mandates of the committee do not cover campaign for tenure extension of political office holders.
The visit to local governments, he said, was to further sensitise APC members to bring in more Lagosians into the party folds
He added that it was also to educate non-members on the benefits of joining the APC.
He described the reportage of the incident at Surulere Local Government as untrue.
He said: “Since the exercise has been extended, we were in Surulere like we did visit other councils like Apapa, Eti-Osa, Epe, Lagos Mainland, Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Amuwo-Odofin among others to discuss with the stakeholders on the challenges facing the registration.
“During the engagement, we made everyone understand that Lagos has been in the forefront of the party, especially looking at the sacrifices made by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the development recorded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, hence Lagos should record more registration of party members.
“While waiting for another set of stakeholders’ from the council, the chairman appealed that the waiting period could be used to visit projects that were under construction and see the plans the council under APC has for the people to ensure better welfare.
And we visited a big health centre going on and we were impressed with what we saw. This made us to enjoin the residents to use the available window to register as APC members and get more dividends of democracy. That was all that happened. So, the report that the committee was canvassing tenure extension for the council chairman outside the required constitutional term was unfounded.”
