First Kenyan To Publicly Announce HIV Status Is Dead


The first Kenyan to publicly announce his HIV status, Joe Muriuki, is dead.
According to The Star, Muriuki’s death was confirmed by Nephak, an organisation that supports people living with HIV and AIDS.
Muriuki died after living with the HIV virus for over 30 years.
He announced to the world that he was HIV positive in 1987.
For most of the years he lived with the virus, Muriuki resisted antiretroviral medications, revealing that he maintained a stable CD4 count of over 400 through a healthy diet, keeping active and a positive attitude.
