Davido Versus Patrick Amaju: Court Declines Davido’s Application For Stay Of Proceedings
A Delta State High Court sitting in Effurun has refused the application by singer, David Adeleke aka Davido, seeking a stay of proceedings in the N2 billion suit filed against him by Brownhill Investment Company Limited owned by former NFF president, Amaju Pinnick, over the annual ‘Warri Again Concert’
Amaju’s company filed the lawsuit against Davido after he failed to perform at a concert in Warri which he was fully paid for. The company is asking the court to award N2 billion as general damages against Davido.The company is also asking the court for N150 million as legal and professional fees and an additional N30 million as the cost of filing the suit.
Defendants in the suit are David Adeleke a.k.a “Davido,” and his music label, Davido Music Worldwide Limited.
Vanguard reports that at the hearing in the matter recently, Davido’s counsel, Norrison Quakers, SAN, informed the court that there was a pending appeal and that the defendants had filed a motion for a stay of proceedings. Quakers further told the court that the defendants had been served with a copy of the claimant’s counter affidavit to the said motion for stay.
However, he applied to withdraw the motion and submitted that the Court of Appeal had become seized with authority over the proceedings pending before the lower court.
The counsel to Amaju’s company, Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem, did not oppose the application to withdraw the motion and the court granted the same according.
The court in a bench ruling upheld the claimant’s argument and held that until an order staying further proceedings is obtained from the Court of Appeal, the High Court will continue with proceedings in the case.
Grammy Award-winning singer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has revealed why he is not yet ready to have children.
He made this known during an Instagram live session on his page on Wednesday.
Burna Boy claimed that his desire to provide the same level of love and dedication his parents gave him is the reason why he is not having kids.
Explaining further, Burna Boy said, “Why haven’t I had kids yet? Bro, it’s because I don’t want to have kids. Like, have you seen my operation? Have you seen my mom the way she loves me? Have you seen my dad the way he loves me?
“Bro, I know I can’t give that to anyone right now with the life I live. So until I am settled and can be there for my children every day, every minute of every day, I am not having any kids.”
The singer was arrested or rather dramatically dragged into the police van while he was trying to run away from the arrest on May 14 following a petition from a car dealer.
Portable allegedly purchased a G-Wagon worth N27 million from the car dealer, made a down payment and took the vehicle away with the promise to pay the balance.
After waiting for a while without any word concerning his balance, the dealer reached out to the singer who claimed the car he purchased had faults. The dealer then asked the singer to return the car or pay the balance but Portable allegedly refused.
Following a petition from the dealer, the police moved in and arrested the singer who is currently in their custody.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest of the singer.
Comedians such as AY Makun, Seyi Law, and MC Lively and many other celebrities were in attendance at the child dedication ceremony of ace comedian Atunyota Akpobome, popularly known as Ali Baba.
Recall that the comedian announced the birth of his triplets, born two months earlier, on his Instagram account on Monday, April 1, 2024. However, some netizens thought it was a prank which Ali Baba didn’t bother clarifying.
