Enugu APC crisis: Senatorial candidate, party chieftain face police investigation

Published

on

The Police in Enugu State on Monday announced that it was investigating the Enugu East Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Lawrence Eze.

The party has been faced with internal crisis after its primary elections, a situation that led to the constitution of a reconciliation committee headed by a former governor of the State, Barr. Sullivan Chime.

GRASSROOTS learnt that the ongoing investigation bordered on a case of threat to life reported against Eze and another chieftain of the party in the State, Chief Anike Nwoga by Mrs. Kate Ebere Nnamani.

However, Ezeh has expressed shock over the police statement on the matter, describing it as political.

The spokesman of the police in Enugu State, SP Ebere Amaraizu had said in a statement that the command “through the operatives of the state criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department has commenced a full scale investigations into the alleged threat to life of a political party flag bearer in Enugu state.

“The investigations came up following a petition of threat to life against one Lawrence Eze and Anike Nwoga written and addressed to the commissioner of police Enugu state by one Kate Ebele Nnamani a House of Representatives flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress.”

The petitioner, Our Corresponden gathered, had claimed that there was several threat to her life orchestrated by the above mentioned people and their cohorts.

She alleged that the duo had threatened that she will not be alive to see the election day, as her days are numbered.

But in a swift reaction, Ezeh expressed shock that such a petition would go to the media even before his attention was called to it.

He said in a statement, “I am shocked to hear there is such a petition against me. But you can see it is a political tool targeted at a leading candidate in the Enugu East Senatorial race.

“I have not had any private talk or even a one-on-one interaction with this lady. The last time I saw her was in the party chairman’s hotel in Abuja where we went to submit our forms. I am surprised that people could go to this level just to run a candidate down.

“She is also a candidate but it is clear that she is being used by the opposition to run me down maybe because of my acceptability to my people.

“There is no iota of truth in the spurious allegations and I cannot descend so low to that level. All I am interested in is to win the election but you can see it is a deliberate attempt to pull me down.

“I am also surprised that the police will issue such a press statement in a matter they have not even called my attention.”

Also reacting, Nwoga who equally denied threatening the politician, said the female candidate was merely persuaded to drop her ambition for someone from Enugu East local government area in order to respect the existing zoning arrangement in the Federal Constituency.

“80% Of Buildings In Lekki Have No Approval” – Lagos State Commissioner For Physical Planning & Urban Development Reveals

Published

on

The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, has stated that 80 per cent of buildings in Ibeju Lekki have no approval.

Olumide disclosed this while speaking to newsmen recently.

In his words; “Just last week Thursday and Friday, myself and the team were in the Ibeju Lekki and Epe axis and you would agree with me that anybody passing through that corridor would see a lot of estates marked. We went there, and I can tell you that from what we saw, over 80 per cent of them do not have approval.

The procedure to get approval is first to get the planning information, as to what those areas have been zoned for. In this case, what we have is agricultural land, and people now go to their families to buy agricultural land. Of course, those lands would be sold because those families do not know the use such land would be put to.

The next thing to do is the fence permit. If you missed the earlier information on not knowing the area zoning, at the point of getting the fence permit, you would be able to detect what the area is zoned for. After that, the layout permits a large expense of land follows.”’

Olumide noted that a layout permit cannot be obtained if it is not zoned for the purpose it was designed for or for the purpose it was being requested.

“So, you can see all these layers, but people still go ahead to start advertising. Some have even gone to the extent of displaying the sizes they want to sell. Imagine someone in the diaspora who wants to send money without any knowledge. Then, no approval is eventually gotten. Even if they pass the assignment and the survey to them, we would not grant the individual permit, because that area is not zoned for that purpose’’ Olumide said

This partly explains why some of the houses are being turn down currently in the state.
